Themed Color Hunts

Image
While browsing through some of my preschool pages, I came across an idea that a parent came up with for her preschooler.  It was so fun and different and many other parents were very interested in making this activity for their own kids, and so was I.  I got on my computer and converted some of my clip art to create these color finding mats.  I then posted the item for free in the group where the idea originated, as well as in my TPT store (link at the bottom of the post).  Each themed packet includes the following colors: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple/violet, pink, black, white, grey/gray, and brown. I also created several themed versions of this idea. Activities to do with Real Leaves!

Image
We are going on a leaf hunt!  We're going to find some colorful ones!  That is what we did today.  We went on a walk and found a bag full of colorful leaves.  This post will feature some great, free activities to do with leaves you find outside! The first thing we did is sort our leaves by color.  I simply took a large sheet of paper and drew the different color circles on it and let my kinder sort the leaves into the appropriate spots.  You can also graph the different colors to see which one you have the most or least of.  You can also have students choose a favorite color leaf and make a classroom graph. Next, we chose a few nicely textured leaves that laid flat and made leaf rubbings! I have never done rubbings with my kids before and my daughter was amazed that she just rubbed a crayon on the paper and the leaf came through.  She had to pick and try out several different leaves! Another art project we did was leaf prints....

Summer Days and Story Time

Today was a great day.  We had out door fun, library fun, being girly fun... just lots of fun. First off, we had some girly fun. My daughter has been asking for me to paint her nails, so today I finally made good on my promise and painted both her finger and toe nails.  As expected, we had a fit five minutes later because one of her nails already had a chip in it and she was set on scratching all the paint off because she didn't want it anymore.   Another part of our girly morning was her Ana braids.  She insisted she wear Ana braids to our weekly story time visit at out local library.  If you are looking for something free and fun for your preschooler, just go to your local library and ask about story time.  Many of the libraries around here have age specific ones for babies, 2-3, 4-5 and some do story times for all ages.  We go to one for all ages since I have a baby, a 2 year old and a 5 year old. After story time and our routine Chic...
