We had a very productive week last week, despite a 3 day sickness with the youngest and several doctor's visits. We continued our week with more transportation activities.  She drew this picture of a mom driving a car with her kid in the back seat.  They were going to spend the night at a friends's house... hence the suit case in the back.  She had a whole story to tell for her picture! We also continued our word family activities with our AG word family puzzles . We also did a transportation themed science activity called Sink the Boat ! We used a plastic container and tried to fill it with various objects to sink it! We used this recording sheet to predict how many of each item we thought we would need and then we tested our predictions. We found we needed 10 rocks to sink the boat, which was more than we predicted.  My daughter under predicted every category! It's fall and the day before Halloween!  Are you looking for some fun last minute ideas for your pumpkin other than just carving it?  Here is what we have done with our pumpkins! I first bought three pumpkins, one for each of my children.  I let them sit outside and paint them any way they desired!  They turned out wonderful!  I use them as decoration on my counter! I also bought a small pumpkin pie pumpkin to do come activities with.  I cut the top from the pumpkin and dug out the insides.  I let my daughter feel the inside and had her pick out the seeds. After washing and drying the seeds, we counted how many we had with a pumpkin seed counting mat .  I first, before even cutting the pumpkin, had her predict how many she thought would be in there.  She guessed 50.  We had 77 seeds total!  Apparently smooth pumpkin have less seeds.  I learned this after picking out this pumpkin.  Some people had pumpkins o...

I am so glad we are all feeling better!  While the boys have horrible congestion and cough, neither have fevers! It is so nice to not have to be tending to sick little ones for a change.  I want to get back to our normal. This week we continued our fall theme by doing this fun painting pumpkin craft.  My daughter insisted on doing it on her own.  I think she did well! We also did this hundreds chart puzzle of a pumpkin patch !  I simply printed the answer key for the puzzle and cut it apart in various shapes for my little girl to put together. We made some pumpkin decorations this week to display,  My five year old made the pumpkin on the left, my 2 year old did the one on the right and I made the one in the middle for the baby!  My daughter thought this was the best art project ever and was so excited to pick out her own pumpkin at the store! Here is a collection of apple activities we have done this year!  I did these with my five year old and my 2 year old! Here was our first art project!  The letter outline we used can be found in my Lowercase Letter Outlines ! We got to be scientists as we studied what part of an apple floats or sinks.  The recording pages can be found in this Let's Be Scientists packet !  I wrote a more detailed blog post about it HERE !   We looked at and sequenced the life cycle of an apple.  We also did this art project where my kids colored their apple then tore red paper to decorate it!  My two year old LOVED ripping up the paper! This week went much smoother than the first two!  We had no sick kids this week!  Yay!  While we did school everyday this week, I don't think I remembered to take the pictures I needed for my post, so I'll just post what I do have and hope that next week I do a better job! We continues our unit on apples.  I believe this will be our last week with apples as we exhausted many of my ideas! We have been working through an apple theme since we started school in mid August.  We've done all sorts of apple activities.  Today, we did our first science experiment, do apples float or sink? Above are the sheets we used for this experiment.  The first one has detailed instructions on what to do as well as a material list.  The second page is the recording sheet where you can make your predictions and record your results.  The final page is a journal page for reflecting on what was observed!
