Fun Fall Activities!

Image
There are so many things you can do with fall!  This post will focus mainly around activities with fall leaves and acorns! To start off our fall theme, I had my daughter complete a mystery picture puzzle .  She loved putting the puzzle together to learn what we were going to study!  This mystery puzzle made a fall leaf ! The next day, we went on a leaf hunt!  My daughter had a blast finding and picking up all the different colored leaves!  We did a ton of projects with these leaves, like sorting by color, leaf prints, leaf rubbings and even had an unexpected surprise in our leaf bag when we got home!  I wrote about the activities we did with our leaves in more details in my post: Free Things to do with Real Leaves! I made these color and number playing cards for my daughter to practice her number words and color words.  We played War, Uno, Go Fish and matching with these cards! Of course, I game each game a fall leaf name.  W...

Kindergarten Week 4

Week four is coming to a close.  Yes, I know it is only Thursday, but as we sit here, Hurricane Irma is coming closer and closer to us.  We leave in the morning for a safer location and I have no idea when we will be back!  It all depends on her ever changing track and where in her "cone of uncertainty" she will go.  We have had only two days of school this week due to all of the hurricane prep and doctors appointments (well checks!  No sicknesses!) Due to the limited time I have, I will only be highlighting three activities from this week.  The first being a 100s chart mystery picture ! I created a little twist on the normal color the picture type mystery pictures and made a 100s chart mystery picture puzzle.  I made the color me worksheet too, but my daughter wanted to do the puzzle.  Since she had never done a mystery picture puzzle, I let her use the answer key so she would know how to arrange the numbers.  We are just learning n...

CVC Word Candy Corn Puzzles

Image
So I have been playing around with Pinterest and trying to figure things out as all I ever knew about Pinterest was to make and post and repost pins.  I did not know how to do a lot of the fancy stuff so today I took time to learn how to make a pinable picture in my blog post! These CVC word puzzles are a great center activity for those beginning to learn about CVC words and those who are ready to spell them on their own.  There are two versions to use! The larger candy corn puzzles can be mixed and matched to form just about any CVC word.  There is a recording page included to record the puzzles the student creates. The picture cards are for students to spell the word on the cards.  There are 24 different word cards.  Students build the candy corn puzzle in the space provided on the card. I plan to use this center activity closer to Halloween when I plan to introduce CVC words to my daughter.  I'll let you all know how it goes! If you are int...

Back to School -- Addition Pencil Puzzles

Image
I don't normally worry about back to school themed items because we are doing year round schooling.  Yep, year round.  I found that when we took breaks, even just two or three days, my daughter did not want to get back into the school routine.  It is much easier when she knows it is school time verses her getting upset because she didn't know we were going to do school today. Our rule is if daddy is home, there is no school, unless she requests to do school, which she has a few times.  They do not get to see him much, just an hour in the evenings, so if he has a day off work I let the kids spend as much time with them as they want. We also take sick days, or special days when we have visitors and such.  I aim for 180 days per year, or an average of 15 days a month.  If we don't quite get 180, I am not going to stress it as long as we learn the material we needed to learn for that year. Right now, for the Pre-K year, we must do every weekday between now ...
