I am getting ready to teach my second child his name... how to recognize it, how to spell it and then how to write it.  I created this book for him to use to learn is name! This page has a duel purpose.  It is, as the picture suggest, used to trace the letters.  It can also double for a play dough mat for students to make their name out of play dough or to cover with other kinds of manipulatives. This packet also contains cards for my son to learn how to spell his name.   I made this page for my son to practice writing the letters in his name.  First the page has him trace the letter then write the letters n his own. I made this page to help him write his name in order.  It moves from tracing all of the name to only part of the name and by the final line he should be able to write his whole name himself. This page has his name with large font size which will e good initial writing practice as larger letters are easier to trace. ...

We had such a fun time learning to write our name.  My daughter was so focused and eager to learn her name and to write it perfectly. Here is one idea we did when she was learning to spell her last name.  We built our last name with building bricks! I also wrote her name on a large sheet of paper and let her cover the letters with stickers.  You can use any small craft objects to cover the letters, like pom poms, paper squares, dab it markers... etc. I also made her a puzzle to use to learn to spell her name.  I would give her the puzzle everyday, first thing, and have her put the letters in order and then write her name. (The pic shows the one I made for my son).  I made mine on the computer but you can easily use index cards or cut up construction paper. Write the child's name with a highlighter and have the child trace over their name.  Move the name learning outside and have your child trace their name in chalk.  And ...

So, this week was the first week since we started school where we did our lessons everyday! We continued our fall theme with these tissue paper leaves.  The leaf templates we used can be found in this Fall Themed Packet . We finally mastered beginning sounds and have moved on to ending sounds.  I found this fun set of ending sound games for free from This Reading Mama ! When she sees me pull one of these games out, she says, "Mom!  I want to do that first!" First off please ignore my feet... I forgot to crop this picture and I just don't have time to do that right at the moment!  We have been learning about being friends.  I found this cute sorting activity for free, but I could not relocate it to give you the link and the creator did not place her information anywhere on the product! Well, another slow week on the Kindergarten front.  My husband said it seemed like we don't "do" school more often than we do.  Some weeks it does seem like it!  Monday we were traveling, Wednesday I had a meeting and Friday her cousin came to town, so we really only had two formal school days this week.  In our defense, when we have "no school days" we still read and do art and simple things like that, just not any of our curriculum.  It is why I like homeschooling so much!  It is so flexible! We continued learning about resources this week, and focused on natural and man made resources .  We did this little sort to learn about the difference between the two.
