Fun and Creative Ways to Teach Students to Spell and Write their Name

Image
We had such a fun time learning to write our name.  My daughter was so focused and eager to learn her name and to write it perfectly. Here is one idea we did when she was learning to spell her last name.  We built our last name with building bricks! I also wrote her name on a large sheet of paper and let her cover the letters with stickers.  You can use any small craft objects to cover the letters, like pom poms, paper squares, dab it markers... etc. I also made her a puzzle to use to learn to spell her name.  I would give her the puzzle everyday, first thing, and have her put the letters in order and then write her name. (The pic shows the one I made for my son).  I made mine on the computer but you can easily use index cards or cut up construction paper. Write the child's name with a highlighter and have the child trace over their name.  Move the name learning outside and have your child trace their name in chalk.  And ...

Kindergarten Week 33

We have been very sporadic with our lessons the last 2 weeks due to family being in town and sickness running though our home, so this post will cover what we have done since our last post! My daughter has been enjoying learning how to count money!  These activities, which focus on introducing and counting pennies were some we used the first day.  The piggy bank page is a free download from Tweet Resources and the booklet is a free download from Klassy Kinders! We also explored our pennies and had fun looking for Abraham Lincoln on the back of the penny! Someone has a birthday soon!  She, on her own, decided to make a countdown chart where she will cut off one number each day until she gets to the end, then it will be her birthday! We have bee learning about Mexico the last few weeks and we did this yarn art after looking at pictures of traditional yarn paintings of the Huichol people of Mexico! My 3 year old son is also finally beginning his sch...

Alphabet Flip Books

Image
One of my newest products are these alphabet flip books.  They are designed to help students to learn their letters by finding, tracing, writing and learning beginning sounds.  There are 6 different activities to engage your student's learning.   The first page is a seek and find page.  Students will circle the capital letter and put a square around the lowercase letters. The second page is a find and color page.  Students will color the circle that contains the correct letter. This page can be competed several ways.  Students can use magazine letter cut outs to complete the page or use the provided letters to cut and paste to the page. This page is for students to trace and write the letters.  They have one line for tracing each letter and two lines for writing each letter. This page is optional and for students who are ready to learn beginning sounds.  Students will color all the pictures that begin with the let...

Kindergarten Week 32

Image
This week was one of those weeks that started off great but ended very badly... for momma.  The kids loved their week this week. The week started with Sunday Easter celebrations and dying Easter eggs.  My two older kids tried boiled eggs for the first time and my daughter loved the whites but not the yolk... my son would not do more than a nibble of each. We finished off our unit on transportation this week.  My daughter had fun looking for pictures of transportation in our magazines and then making this collage. Here is the next flower craftivity for the AB family flower!  My daughter loves doing these so much! The end of the week was supposed to be a big family blast at the Georgia Aquarium.  The older two kids went up to Atlanta with their grandmother a few days before our trip.  We bought tickets ahead of time and my husband and I and the baby went up on Friday evening.  The kids had such a blast, but momma ended up not being a...

Kindergarten Weeks 30-31

Image
We have had some relaxed weeks the last two weeks and this upcoming week will be less as well.  It is spring break week for the public schools and we are planning a trip to the aquarium for the kids big birthday present.  My next weeks post will focus on that trip! This flower is just one in a part of a series of craftivities we have been working through.  This one is for the am family. My daughter still loves these puzzles, so I have begun making more to go along with the next word families we are working with. Continuing our transportation theme, we did this land, sea and air sort. In math, we have been working on making shapes with pattern blocks.  This has been a nice change to the addition and subtraction lessons we had been doing.  It is also the last lesson from our math curriculum.  I still have more math planned, but it is all extra! Letter F Activities

Image
Check out this post for activities all about the letter F! F is for feather!  Simply print off a letter F outline , give the student some feathers and have them make the letter F with their feathers! Build the letter F with pouch tops!  Print off the letter F mat to help guide students in making the letter F.  This is one of my son's favorite activities! Another one of my son's favorite activities are playdough mats !  I place the page in a page protector (playdough does not stick to page protectors!) so that the sheet can be reused. F is for fire!  We printed off the letter F on card stock .  I gave each of my kids red and yellow paint and a paint brush.  They painted their letter F with both colors, mixing to make orange as desired.  While the paint was still wet, they crumpled tissue paper to give texture. This is the same mat used for the playdough mats .  I simply removed it from the sleeve and we hunted for...
