Well, another slow week on the Kindergarten front.  My husband said it seemed like we don't "do" school more often than we do.  Some weeks it does seem like it!  Monday we were traveling, Wednesday I had a meeting and Friday her cousin came to town, so we really only had two formal school days this week.  In our defense, when we have "no school days" we still read and do art and simple things like that, just not any of our curriculum.  It is why I like homeschooling so much!  It is so flexible! We continued learning about resources this week, and focused on natural and man made resources .  We did this little sort to learn about the difference between the two. Another week is done!  We had a lot of fun this week.  After having a day off on Monday due to Irma, we kicked our school days back up on Tuesday.  My daughter did NOT want to have school.  After four days off, who can blame her.  This is the reason we do year round school.  It keeps her in a routine and that keeps her from becoming upset when things have to change! We started our week off by going on a leaf hunt.  We started our fall themed activities last week and so this week we focused specifically on fall leaves. We are going on a leaf hunt!  We're going to find some colorful ones!  That is what we did today.  We went on a walk and found a bag full of colorful leaves.  This post will feature some great, free activities to do with leaves you find outside! The first thing we did is sort our leaves by color.  I simply took a large sheet of paper and drew the different color circles on it and let my kinder sort the leaves into the appropriate spots.  You can also graph the different colors to see which one you have the most or least of.  You can also have students choose a favorite color leaf and make a classroom graph. Next, we chose a few nicely textured leaves that laid flat and made leaf rubbings! I have never done rubbings with my kids before and my daughter was amazed that she just rubbed a crayon on the paper and the leaf came through.  She had to pick and try out several different leaves! Week four is coming to a close.  Yes, I know it is only Thursday, but as we sit here, Hurricane Irma is coming closer and closer to us.  We leave in the morning for a safer location and I have no idea when we will be back!  It all depends on her ever changing track and where in her "cone of uncertainty" she will go.  We have had only two days of school this week due to all of the hurricane prep and doctors appointments (well checks!  No sicknesses!) Due to the limited time I have, I will only be highlighting three activities from this week.  The first being a 100s chart mystery picture ! I created a little twist on the normal color the picture type mystery pictures and made a 100s chart mystery picture puzzle.  I made the color me worksheet too, but my daughter wanted to do the puzzle.  Since she had never done a mystery picture puzzle, I let her use the answer key so she would know how to arrange the numbers.  We are just learning n...

Here is a collection of apple activities we have done this year!  I did these with my five year old and my 2 year old! Here was our first art project!  The letter outline we used can be found in my Lowercase Letter Outlines ! We got to be scientists as we studied what part of an apple floats or sinks.  The recording pages can be found in this Let's Be Scientists packet !  I wrote a more detailed blog post about it HERE !   We looked at and sequenced the life cycle of an apple.  We also did this art project where my kids colored their apple then tore red paper to decorate it!  My two year old LOVED ripping up the paper! My son is only two and he LOVES trains.  It is his favorite thing to play with.  He sleeps with his Henry train every night.  He watches videos on Youtube of trains just going do the track.  Did I mention he LOVES trains? Well, this past week, he has really wanted to "play school" with his sister.  I've let him join in crafts and given him the letter A to color a couple of times and today, I decided to try out a new center activity I made with the intentions of saving it until he was older.  He saw me working on it on the computer and got really excited, "Mommy, train!  I watch it Henry train?"  He thought I was watching a Youtube video with Henry the train in it since the train car I was working on was green.  I explained that I wasn't watching a video but would print out the pictures for him to play with if he wanted me to.  He was super excited about that!
