Kindergarten Week 11

Week eleven is done!  And I am a little late posting as week 12 has already begun!  We had a busy weekend with fall festivals and family visits!

We continued learning about community helpers.  We made this doctors kit when we learned about doctors.  I had cotton balls, q-tips and band aids at home and we looked through magazines to find examples of other things a doctor would use!

One of my daughter's favorite thing from the week was this skeleton puzzle.  I gave her the bones to see if she could figure it out.  The picture on the left shows what she did. The one on the right was where we learned about where each bone actually goes and felt some of those bones under our own skin!

Since it was the week before Halloween, we had a lot of fun with pumpkins this week!  We carved a small pumpkin pie pumpkin and dug out the insides.  I washed and cleaned the seeds and we used this counting mat to figure out how many seeds we had!  Before we cut the pumpkin, I had her guess how many seeds she though there were (she guessed 50) and then she tested her guess by counting!  She had 77 seeds in her pumpkin!  I learned that the less number of seams your pumpkin has, the less number of seeds it will have.  So, if you want a pumpkin that doesn't have 400 seeds, look for a smooth one!

We then took our empty pumpkin shell and turned it into a pumpkin volcano!  We had to do this experiment 4 times as it was a huge hit!  I put two heaping tablespoons of baking soda in the pumpkin and gave my daughter one cup of vinegar to pour in.  I did it the first time, she did it the second time.  The 2 year old tried pouring but he was too enthusiastic so the vinegar ended up all over sissy!

We did a lot of fun activities with corn this week too!  To see more details on our corn fun, you can read my Field of Corn post!

We are still learning about the letter B with the two year old.  He made his letter poster this week.  I helped him find pictures that started with B and he put on the baseball and bubble stickers!
